Jesus Loves Bexhill
Litter Picking updates 2021

Another good treasure hunting day, with 12 of us out on Saturday.
10 more lime-green hi-vis tabards have been ordered, so people will certainly see us coming next time, our numbers continue to grow, can you imaging what it could be like for us next summer! Exciting.

STORIES

Clive set us off in prayer.
The sea front was very busy despite cooler weather and the new 'winter time' of 10:45 seemed worthwhile.
With more Litter Pickers, there were many encounters.
Between us we met:
- Terry from Lowestoft
- Judy, a local lady who wants to come to church
- Dot and Bob are new to Bexhill: they shared some of their personal family problems.
- Emily and Liam. Liam said that he had experienced some suicidal thoughts in his life.
- Terry...a good initial contact.
- Irina, very interested in why we litter picked and wanted to know which church this particular member attended.
- A young man at The Albatros club showed much interest and expressed an interest in joining us; he was given a card.

All-in-all, a very worthwhile morning with many members of the Team admitting that they felt a lot more confident in sharing their faith and the love of Jesus.
It was very gratifying that last Sunday a couple we had met in the previous week attended Kings, Bexhill on the following Sunday.

We are making many new friends on the seafront as each week we often meet some familiar faces.

Invite friends to join us and keep an eye out for Geoff's email about Saturday Nov 6th.

Fewer in numbers but great in spirit, the team sallied forth on Sunday with expectation, and determination, and after prayer!
Before going on into the stories section there is an important announcement to make:
Our next outing is, as already notified, on Saturday Oct. 23rd, but this will now be at 10:45am, our winter operating time, and day, until the Spring, on alternate Saturday mornings; our next two dates therefore, will be Sat. Oct. 23rd and Sat. Nov. 6th.
We have been provided with more bags, gloves and hoops by Rother District Council, the hoops are especially welcome, as they have made collecting litter much easier. A photograph of the team has been requested so that it can be placed somewhere on the website of Rother District Council. Once funds are in place for us to purchase more Jesus loves Bexhill tabards, we will oblige with pleasure.

Stories
Deborah met a family who used to go to her previous church but now attend Kings in Hampden Park. Deborah also met a Street Pastor acquaintance.
Geoff was able to witness and encourage Colin, John and Francis to join us!
Clive and Chrissie had a valuable chat with an ex soldier who struggles with PTSD; he was very open to the Gospel.
Hilary and Mike had a long chat with Derek who moved to Pebsham from Hilary's hometown in Enfield. He asked where Kings, Bexhill meets and we were able to give him a card and invite him. Interestingly, he had searched the south coast before settling in Bexhill.

As usual we met at The Bathing Station to share experiences.

Keep letting Bexhill know that Jesus loves us all!

Malc and John spoke with Jamie and Michael, to explain why they were litter picking and what Jesus loves Bexhill was all about.
They also had a chat with Darren, one of the council cleaners about fossils and he told them he will bring some samples to show next time.
Deborah and Geoff met up with Frank once again, and this time they prayed for healing for his hands after Geoff shared his testimony of how God had healed him from a problem eminating from a motorcycle accident.
They spoke with Michael, a builder who lives in Sidley, and gave him a Jesus loves Bexhill card.
They also spoke with an elderly couple, the husband has dementia, and they accepted a Jesus loves Bexhill card.
David and Pam spoke with a lady who is looking for a church to attend.
They gave her directions to Bexhill College and info re. King’s, Bexhill as that was the church they attended.
Clive and Chrissie had a number of general chats, people were expressing thanks for all that we are doing regarding litter picking.
Deborah was asked “ Why is Jesus the Light of the World?"
Her reply “ because He is “

Another eventful and fruitful afternoon...it just gets better!
We welcomed our newest recruit, Chrissie, who we met on patrol last time! Chrissie attends a church in Hastings bringing the number of churches represented in our team to four.
Su, on her mobility scooter, joined us; she offered to collect any heavy sacks en route. She was able to witness to a lady in a wheelchair.
The number of "stories" that were shared at The Old Bathing Station Cafe are too numerous to recount, I shall mention but a few:
• Trevor; recently divorced and now caring for his elderly mother who struggles with dementia.
• Mandy; a good chat about what we do, and why, which led onto questions about Street Pastors.
• Dave from T' Wells; he opened up a lot about his life; we gave him a JLB card.
• John and Elaine, locals with their friend from Wiltshire...very supportive and were grateful to receive a JLB card too!
• Carol and Dave from New Romney. They told us about a Litter Pick Watch of (a mere!) 1300 people! This inspired us to think bigger!
• Serge and Peter from south London for the day. Serge is a Christian with a Catholic background; Peter, is a Hindu by birth. They were both very open to talk. We had the joy of praying for them both...with their permission, of course!
• While picking up litter, one of our team was stopped by a man who asked if he could donate to our charity! He was encouraged to donate instead to St Michael's Hospice.
These are just some of the people we had the joy of encountering. Only our heavenly Father knows where good seed is sown and will grow.
Several team members said how the LP exercise had made them more confident and 'natural' in sharing the Good News! That must be good! Wearing the Jesus Loves Bexhill logo is also found to be very helpful.

Our next adventure is on Saturday 25th Sept. Same time and place! (2:30 @ Sov Light Cafe.) See you there and spread the word!

Well done, valiant LPs! Another afternoon of people to meet and stories to tell.

Welcome to L F who joined us for the first time and hopes to repeat the outing next time, (Sunday 12th Sept. by the way!)
After a group prayer we set off in search of those God had already prepared us to meet.
Our numbers are growing, and it is especially good to meet some, like the Ancient Mariner, Frank; also Chrissie, the "rabbit lady"...; good relationships are being formed.

Stories:
* We met Caroline who expressed an interest in joining Kings...we gave her a Jesus Loves Bexhill card with a phone number.
* Norman, and a couple from France all who praised the efforts of the team in keeping Bexhill special.
* Patricia, a member of Kings in Hastings who is interested in joining Bexhill Kings; also her friend, Jenny, who attends St John's in Bexhill.., we were able to pray for both ladies.
* Paula also received a JLB card; she said that she would like to join us!
* Mark & Christine who moved to Bexhill 26 yesrs ago and love it. Were able to be a good witness to them.
* Brief chat with Frank again, there is a placque now on the bench where his wife passed away before Christmas last year.
* Interviewed a young 3/4 year old for litter picking duties, he was very good with the litter picking stick, much to the amusement of his grandad, and family.

As usual, we met up for hot drinks at the Bathing Station, where Pat P and Pam P joined us, We shared stories of our encounters. More of us are now wearing the Jesus loves Bexhill shirts and fleeces; the logo often creates a good start talking point and gives us the often needed prompt to share our faith.

We pray that those who we were able to contact, will feel valued, respected, and know the love of God. Bexhill seafront is cleaner of litter today, but we pray that the Kingdom of Heaven was a little bit nearer!

Let's try to widen our net a bit more next time by spreading further along the seafront and surrounding streets.
Our next two outings, weather permitting, are Sunday 12th and Saturday 25th September, both at 2:30 pm.

Another event-filled Litter Picking adventure!
A party of 14 joined forces on Sunday to take Bexhill seafront by storm. A strong prayer team supported us as we set off in pairs in different directions from the Sovereign Light Cafe. We arranged to meet up at 4pm at the Bathing Station to share experiences.
The large majority of us were able to sport the 'Jesus Loves Bexhill' shirts which once again gave rise to some very good conversations with visitors and locals enjoying the sunshine of Bexhill.

Some brief stories:
We met Chrissie who has just moved to Bexhill from Hastings. She attended the Living Word church for the first time this week.
Another of our party encountered two ladies from Tunbridge Wells. This looks to be a good encounter to reconnect with next time.
Two of our company were "accosted" by a couple sitting by their Harley Davidson,1800cc motorbike. They had noticed our JLB shirts and wanted to tell us that they were from the Hope Church in Orpington. Before we had a chance to pray for them, they both embraced us and prayed powerfully for us before roaring off on their bike!
Frank was another meeting. A number of our group had met Frank before on previous visits. He lives in Bexhill and we know him as the Lone Mariner on account of him having spent 34 years sailing the Seven Seas with his wife. We talked about the awe and wonder of God's creation; Frank admitted to being very lonely since the death of his wife. We offered to pray for him, which we did, reminding ourselves of the ever present love of God.
Contact was also made with a couple who live in a block of flats to the east of the Bandstand. They expressed interest and asked to be kept in touch by receiving a JLB card.
Another two of our company met Darren, Steve and Paul, from Maidstone, on their way to a Vespa meeting at the Custom Cafe, good contact as they "God Blessed" us as they went on their way.
Altogether a day of good encounters which we pray will bear fruit.

Our next litter pick events will be on Saturday August 28th. and Sunday Sept. 12th. both at 2:30 at the Sovereign Cafe.
Do come and spread the Word! We come from at least three different Bexhill churches which is encouraging.

God Bless!

 Jesus loves Bexhill

Here we are again with our usual litter picking update, and what a great afternoon’s litter picking we had today, lots of good conversations, and many, many words of encouragement, and thanks, from passers-by. We do have a lot of fun, and very much enjoy the banter with each other, as well as with those on the prom.
Before we prayed together and set off, there were six of us today with a further three praying, and waiting for us at the Bathing Station Café, which made it all rather special when we did finally met up, we talked with a chap from St Leonards for quite a time, and we invited him to join us for tea or coffee at the Bathing Station when we finished, which for a short while he did, after explaining to Deborah and I, that he was a worshipper of Freya, a goddess in Nordic mythology who is known for her fondness of love, fertility, beauty, and fine material possessions!!!! and apparently her followers only eat at 7.00am and 8.00pm. Who would have thought it, in Bexhill of all places, mind you he did come from St Leonards!
There was the lady with her daughter Ann who we were able to witness to, the couple on holiday from Rochester who were camping over the other side of Rye, but preferred Bexhill, we met Frank again sitting on the same bench where his wife had died earlier in the summer, very much a loner, but a number of us know him now, and we all stop and spend a little time with him.
Finally, nine of us had a great time of fellowship at the Bathing Station Café (we will be meeting up in the Bandstand when it is available, under our 8ft Jesus loves Bexhill banner), and with a number of people away, when we do all manage to get together, we have the potential to make a big difference with so many “Jesus loves Bexhill” shirts around.
With Mike’s gift of starting conversations, and Deborah’s easy going gift of getting people to ‘open up’, we are establishing quite a team, I have lots to learn from both of them, and look forward to our next adventure together, which will be on the 15th August, at which we hope to see you all at the start, 2.30pm at the Sovereign Light Café, or 3.45pm at the Bathing Station Café for tea, and fellowship.
Thank you everybody, it was a great day.
Geoff

Dear Jesus sharers, and pickers of litter,
Thank you all yesterday for contributing to our endeavours, and unless I am imagining it, people are becoming more and more friendly, one chap even patted me on the back and said “well done for all that you are doing”, and in Devonshire Road, two young ladies called out a hearty “thank you”, as I picked up a bit of litter from outside the shop, which appeared to be some kind of ‘bespoke permanent cosmetic’ place, goodness knows what goes on there, I did ask if they could do anything for my friend, but Mike had already gone up the road.
Some good conversations, and a lot of fun and laughter believe it or not, I don’t think it will be too long before Mike & I are spotted for some talent contest, with all the funny banter that goes on.
The only problem we had, was when one of our members was talking to a lady, and when her husband came back accused him of chatting up his wife! Obviously that wasn’t what was happening, anyway the case comes up next Wednesday. OK so the last bit isn’t true, but the first bit was, in a very humorous way I hasten to add, just part of the fun we have making Jesus known.
Please note next litter pick is Sunday the 11th July, meeting at 2.30pm at the Sovereign Light Café as usual. If anyone wants to just come along, and watch from a distance, before taking the plunge and joining us properly, you are more than welcome to do so.
Only four places left for our breakfast the day before by the way! Response has been really good.
Thank you again everybody.
